ARCHIVE 2008-2012: 2009 - BROADWAY
2009
Broadway, a long avenue of extremes, is a throbbing lifeline of the American dream.
In 2008, I was commissioned by GEO France to photograph landscapes and personalities along this famous New York City thoroughfare. After completing the job, I continued the project and began to focus on iconic Broadway, the area in and around the frenetic center of Times Square.
In May of 2009, the five-block segment of Broadway in Times Square was permanently shut down to create a pedestrian street. Though Broadway runs the entire fourteen-mile length of Manhattan Island and beyond, when this section of Broadway was closed, leaving only Seventh Avenue to narrowly funnel through the former crossroads of the world, the vitality of Broadway began to change.
In this series, I tried to respond to what I found interesting, and revealing, about the street.
